My approach to therapy

You can call me Manny.

I’m a Navy veteran, social worker, and Certified Peer Specialist. Service has shaped how I listen. I understand military and first responder culture, and I work with people navigating trauma, recovery, and the transition into a new chapter.

I earned my Doctor of Social Work at California Baptist University and my Master of Social Work at California State University, Long Beach.

You deserve a conversation where you can be honest. There is room for your whole story here.

Support for what you carry.

Areas of focus include trauma and PTSD, moral injury, anxiety, depression, substance use and recovery, grief, relationships, and life transitions.

I work with veterans, service members, law enforcement, first responders, and the families beside them, including people navigating incarceration and reentry or a discharge under review.

Adults, older adults, couples, and families are welcome to ask about working together.

Practical skills. Your pace.

Sessions are direct and collaborative. Together, we explore what matters to you and build skills you can use between sessions. You have a voice in the pace and direction of our work.

I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, and motivational interviewing, with a trauma-focused and culturally sensitive approach.

If therapy has not felt like a good fit before, tell me. We can talk about what you need to be different.

Request a free 15-minute consultation through my Psychology Today profile or call (424) 267-1462. We can discuss what brings you here, your questions, availability, and fees. For an Open Path appointment, contact me through my Open Path profile to discuss eligibility and openings. Please keep initial messages brief and avoid sending clinical records.

You can bring that experience into our first conversation. Tell me what helped, what felt missing, and what you would like to be different. We can talk openly about whether my approach feels right for you. You do not need the perfect words or a neatly defined goal to begin.
